Early most mornings I walk along the beach and have breakfast at a small warung. It’s my quiet time for reflection and observation. Sometimes, I walk alone, other times with friends. The small rustic Warung Pantai is one of the few beach shacks open early.
I watch the locals as they set up beach umbrellas and chairs, clean the beach, fish, walk or swim. Near the temple Pura Petitenget there is often a morning Ceremony. If you show respect and dress appropriately they are usually happy for you to watch and often keen to explain the ceremony.
Sunday is a rest day for locals, so families come to the beach early to play, swim, eat snacks and just have some fun! It’s quite special on a still morning when the tide is low and the early light is soft.
